We are all people, but why limit people because of disability? Isn't that inequality? I get so tired of reasons that are labeled justifiable. The disabled community has the right to go into any store or public place, and we shouldn't need two working legs to get inside.

Did you know that March is Women's History Month? That's right, this month (and every month, really) we need to celebrate powerful women and shout their accomplishments from the rooftops! I'd love to share some of my favorite female disability advocates with you in this blog post.

Shortly after I graduated from college, a pilot program called Consumer Directed Attendant Support Services was launched in Colorado. It's a Medicaid-based program which provides me with a monthly budget that I use to manage my own caregivers.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led everyone to make numerous changes in their lives over the past year. Wheelchair users in need of a new wheelchair have faced closed clinics and limited access to the knowledgeable & experienced therapists that are so essential to the process. Fortunately, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) approved the use of telehealth for medical services. Telehealth is the exchange of medical information from one site to another through electronic communication to improve a patient's health.

I always tell people that I have the pleasure of having a mother with a disability. She taught me so much in how to be independent with a disability. There was never any second-guessing on me taking a chance on exploring my boundaries to be independent.
